Why are men generally seated on one side and women on the other?

Seeing as Le Dîner en Blanc concept borrows from French court society, many courtesies continue today. For instance, it was customary for men to sit on one side of the dinner table, and women on the other. Some Le Dîner en Blanc events still employ this practice, although it is not mandatory. Color, style, and symmetry are important components of this aesthetic. Furthermore, there is always one perspective that is more beautiful than the other at any event; consider giving this view to your guest, as per courtesy and tradition.

Is it possible to organize a Le Dîner en Blanc in my city?

Dîner en Blanc International has established an exclusive service to facilitate the organization and management of Le Dîner en Blanc events around the world. This turnkey service enables interested local teams to produce the event in their own city, while connecting to the international network. For more information, write to

How many Le Dîner en Blanc events are there in the world?

Launched in Paris in 1988 by François Pasquier and a handful of friends, Le Dîner en Blanc is now celebrated in over 80 cities in 30 countries. Each event is headed by passionate local organizers who fell in love with the concept and brought it to their city.

Why do we have to bring all of our own stuff? Why are tables and chairs not provided?

This is another aspect of the event that makes it so unique! It is one of Le Diner en Blanc's long-standing traditions, dating back to the original gathering that took place in Paris 30 years ago. It also keeps the overhead of the event more reasonable for your volunteer Host team, and ticket prices more reasonable for participants.

If I'm already a member of Le Diner en Blanc in my home city, can I attend an event in another city?

Your Le Diner en Blanc membership is only good for the city in which you are currently a member. To attend an event in a different city, you must sign up for their wait list or be invited by someone who is already a member in that city.

What are the membership and transaction fees for?

Membership and transaction fees are used to cover the inherent costs of training, support and technological services to all the organizers around the world, to enable them to organize their own event, as offered by Dîner en Blanc International. These services allow us to preserve and convey the concept’s values, to sustain our corporate standards by regrouping them within a single network and, to develop technical tools. The membership offers members a number of online services that will grow in the coming years. Dîner en Blanc International is working on updating its platforms so that all participants of a Dîner en Blanc event become members. In addition, this annual fee will allow members to register for as many Dîner en Blanc events in the world as they wish.

Is Dîner en Blanc an illegal activity?

No! All events produced according to Dîner en Blanc International guidelines require local hosts to acquire the proper authorization, permits, and insurance before proceeding with their event.

What are the most important rules and guidelines?

1) Once your registration is confirmed, your full participation in the event is expected - rain or shine! 2) Wear ALL white! This includes your accessories, such as belts, shoes, purses, etc. 2) Arrive to your departure point on time - the buses will not wait for late guests. 3) You must bring with you: 1 regulation sized table (28" or 32" square); 2 white chairs (or have white chair covers); white tablecloth, 2 white linen napkins, place settings and decor; dinner (unless you pre-purchased a catered meal from our e-store). 4) NO OUTSIDE ALCOHOL is allowed - wine must be pre-purchased via our e-store and pick it up on site. 5) Abide by all federal, state and local laws. Respect fellow guests and the space where the event is held. 6) LEAVE NO TRACE - at the end of the night when you pack up to leave, be sure to take all trash, recyclables, and leftovers with you.
